Reaching more than 100 km to the north of the City of Tampere, all the way up to Virrat and Vilppula, runs a continuous water route covering an area of about 500 km2. Around the Ruovesi area, the water route meanders along beautifully, dotted with islands. Narrow sounds join open-water areas and you can find both rugged rocky shores and reedy coves and island tips.

The northern water route has a brownish shade and is known as being an excellent area for catching pike, zander and perch.

Lake Keurusselkä, located to the north of Mänttä, is a shallow lake dotted with islands and a great fishing lake.
