Northern Waters

Reaching more than 100 km to the north of the City of Tampere, all the way up to Virrat, runs a continuous water route covering an area of about 500 km2 including, Lakes Vaskivesi, Visuvesi and Tarjannevesi. Around the Virrat and Ruovesi area, the water route meanders along beautifully, dotted with islands. Narrow sounds join open-water areas and you can find both rugged rocky shores and reedy coves and island tips. The northern water route has a brownish shade and is known as being an excellent area for catching pike, zander and perch.

The northernmost large lake in the Tampere Region, the Y-shaped Lake Toisvesi, is the region’s deepest (85 m). The deep open mid-lake area with no islands is a challenge for anglers, but you can catch a decent-sized zander or pike on top of deep water.
